📣 Exciting News! We are thrilled to welcome Faith Lawson, LPTA, to the Children's Assistive Technology Service (C.A.T.S.) Board! 🎉Faith brings a wealth of personal and professional experience to our team. A graduate of Tidewater Community College, she earned her Associate Degree in Applied Science and became a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (LPTA) in 2016. But Faith’s journey in the world of pediatric physical therapy is as inspiring as it is unique.Born two months premature and diagnosed with a mild form of Cerebral Palsy at age two, Faith underwent multiple surgeries and spent years in physical therapy herself. These experiences shaped her compassionate approach and unwavering dedication to helping others achieve functional independence. Today, she is a driving force on the physical therapy team at St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children, where she continues to make a difference every day.In addition to her work, Faith enjoys concerts and festivals, playing cornhole, walking in the park with her dog, and spending quality time with family and friends. We are honored to have Faith's expertise, passion, and resilience on our board. Please join us in giving her a warm welcome to the C.A.T.S. family! 💙 #WelcomeAboard #MakingADifference #PediatricTherapyAssistant #NewBoardMember #AssistiveTechnology#MeetOurTeam#BoardMemberSpotlight #Volunteer #ChildrensAssistiveTechnologyService #ATDevicesForKids #MakingADifference #Service

It looks interesting and positive Dr Kevin Gallagher one of the main, if not the main concern I come across which I think seriously undermines the quality of therapeutic care is not enough focus on professional development and processes to support the therapeutic work. The care standard approach to staff supervision is inadequate - I know that there is the flexibility to do what is felt to be needed. Supervision once a month is a weak process - it amounts to about 10 hours of supervision for every 1800 hours worked with young people who are complex to work with. Other processes such as consultation on therapeutic work and organizational processes and dynamics should be given serious consideration. Training, reflective spaces. Team meetings ideally weekly are good practice. Some organizations do these aspects very well but I don't think it is as commonplace as it should be. Inspectors seem satisfied if someone has a monthly or sometimes even 6 weekly supervision. I have never heard a concern being raised about care workers not having a professional development plan. With all the talk about relational work and children needing love, unless serious attention is paid to these issues it won't happen. Not through a lack of intent but achieving what is being talked about is extremely difficult. All the difficult as well as the good stuff needs regular and high-quality attention.Very best wishes for the event.

It's never too late.#PCEs = preventative for children; healing for adults. While the name, Positive *Childhood* Experiences, would have you think it's only about children, this is not the case. The name originates from the original CDC & Kaiser-Permanente study on, yes, childhood-limited experiences. Since the 90's, we've learned two things: (1) the C in PCEs, actually can be expanded to encompass 4 locations where positive experiences may take place as they relate to the prevention of trauma, resiliency building against trauma, and healing of trauma; and (2), that in much the same way, the same prevention, resiliency building, and healing, can take place across the life span. While there is evidence to support that the old adage, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure", stands true in PACEs work, and as such that we should indeed continue to strategically focus our Public Health dollars in children, the fact remains: PCEs = prevention for children; healing for adults. It's never too late.#PositiveChildhoodExperiences #ACEs #AdverseChildhoodExperiencess #PACEs #trauma #healing #neurophysiology

In June, we had a special live screening of our new resource for parents, and we had the pleasure of speaking with some incredible individuals during the event!Jamie Saunders is the parent of a child who stutters, as well as one of the NSA Parents and Caregivers Virtual Chapter facilitators. For Jamie, the role parents play in the lives of their children often gets forgotten or pushed into the background in therapy. But it shouldn’t be neglected: parents spend more time with their children than any other single person in their lives, so their impact is far greater than the short therapy sessions kids experience. And in Jamie’s opinion, “Nurturing and Empowering Your Child Who Stutters” is the resource parents have needed in order to understand how important they are.“There are so many parents that need this. Some, but not all, SLPs have ignored us as parents, and have forgotten that we are the key to our kids’ success. We have to let them know that it’s okay to stutter.”Want to find out why Jamie is so passionate about this resource? Watch it to see for yourself! You can find the full video, free for viewing and sharing, on our YouTube channel:https://lnkd.in/gZKUWFvtPLUS: get our free printable caregiver guide on our website at https://lnkd.in/gh5YYDrF#SpeechTherapist #Stuttering #Stutter #SperoStuttering #AllyOfStuttering #SLPTraining #SpeechTherapy #SLPsWhoStutter #CommunicationDisorders #SchoolSLP #PediatricSpeechTherapy #SpeechAndLanguage #NurturingAndEmpowering

The Part C Early Intervention system is the best way to deliver intervention services of all kinds to infants and toddlers who are younger than 3 years old. The EI system has the capacity to transform Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH) services IF we can fund the system sufficiently, so that it can hire qualified professionals who are trained and can guide interventions focused on early concerns regarding emotion dysregulation, so-called "behavior problems," and any social-emotional concerns. The EI system could play a huge role in supporting healthy early relationships. In Utah, the statewide EI system has been making great strides in improving training, assessment, and intervention services for social-emotional concerns. But the system has to be funded sufficiently, to be able to offer these services to all infants, toddlers, and families who need them.

If you know someone with a baby, chances are you know someone who at one point or another used or tried to use Early Intervention for proactive support in their child's development. Having more clinicians in this field is vital to getting new parents and families the support they need as early as possible, however clinicians can literally earn more money than they do in E.I. by working just about anywhere else - doing anything else. Every other industry and private organization has aligned increases with negotiations and changing circumstances - except Early Intervention. Do your small part to speak up for the tired families, educators, and clinicians fighting this fight.

Strong foundations through the power of shared reading. 📚Recent research shows that parents and caregivers with access to Reach Out and Read are significantly more likely to read with their children every day!We work directly with clinicians nationwide to provide books and guidance to parents/caregivers about the importance of reading aloud. Building these language-rich interactions into daily life gives young children a foundation for success. By integrating our model into well-child visits and providing books and resources to families, Reach Out and Read and our clinicians are transforming pediatric care and giving children of all backgrounds and means a strong start to life.#ReachOutAndRead #SharedReading #FamilyBonding #ReadingTogether #ReadWithYourKids #ReadAloud #HealthyEarlyRelationships #BuildingBonds #RelationshipBuilding #EarlyLiteracy #LiteracyMatters #LiteracySkills #MomentsThatMatter
